Marcos: No more ‘secrets’ in public health

With the continuing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. made a promise to fix issues in the COVID-19 response, noting that there will be “no more secrets” in public health.

Marcos said this in his inaugural address at the National Museum of Fine Arts on Thursday, June 30.

The new Chief Executive mentioned that there had been shortcomings on how the health crisis was handled, adding that he also experienced getting sick of the virus.

“There were shortcomings in the COVID response. We will fix them out in the open. No more secrets in public health,” Marcos said.

“Remember, I speak from experience. I was among the first to get COVID. It was not a walk in the park,” he added.

Marcos, however, did not specify the shortcomings in the government’s measure in fighting the pandemic.

In March 2020, Marcos tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving from Europe. He experienced difficulty in breathing when he got infected of coronavirus.

Marcos made the commitment to fix the issues in COVID-19 response amid the recent increase of COVID-19 cases.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health reported 781 new COVID-19 infections and 11 fatalities.

Despite the reported increase on the cases, Metro Manila and other areas will remain under Alert Level 1 from July 1 to 15. — RSJ, GMA News
