3 dead due to spread of typhoid fever in Cebu town
Three persons died while at least 98 fell ill after a typhoid fever spread in Barili town in Cebu province.
According to a report on "24 Oras," the Barili District Hospital is now at full capacity with patients continuously pouring in. Some confined patients are slowly getting better.
Lloyd Suarez of DzBB's Super Radyo Cebu said the patients confirmed to be infected with the disease are spread in 24 barangays.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed cash assistance to the affected residents. It also gave antibiotics test kits and chlorine granules for drinking water.
The Department of Health-Central Visayas is looking into the cause of the spread of bacterial infection.
Typhoid fever is typically caused by contaminated food and water. Some of its symptoms are fever, headache, body pain, and diarrhea.
To prevent infection, authorities advised the public to always wash their hands, boil drinking water and properly cook their meals.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA News
