612 new COVID-19 cases logged; active tally rises to 4,529

The Philippines on Sunday logged 612 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily tally since April 3, bringing the nationwide COVID-19 case total to 3,696,264.

Based on the Health department's latest data, the new figures brought the country's active case count to 4,529 up from 4,176 the previous day.

No new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last three days while a total of 3,631,268 people have been counted as recoveries from the virus.

The top regions with cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 2,194, followed by Calabarzon with 659, Western Visayas with 375, Central Luzon with 324, and Central Visayas with 183.

The DOH said at least 16,495 individuals were tested, while 306 testing labs submitted data on June 18.

It noted that the bed occupancy in the country was 17.2%, with 5,149 beds occupied, while 24,727 vacant.

Independent group OCTA Research on Saturday said that NCR’s COVID-19 cases' one-week growth rate climbed by 71%.

The group said that the NCR's seven-day average "increased from 103 to 176 (as of June 11 to 17), a 71% increase."

“This translates to an ADAR (average daily attack rate) of 1.24,” it added. ADAR pertains to the incidence showing the average number of new cases in a period per 100,000 people.

“The NCR reported 282 new cases on June 17, 2022, based on DOH data. With the exception of April 3 (when there was a high number due to possible backlog), this is the highest number of new cases since February 26, 2022,” OCTA said. — BM, GMA News
