Duterte jokes about leading country with Sara after VP-elect's June 19 inaugural

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday joked about him and his daughter Vice President-elect Sara Duterte leading the country together for 11 days.

Duterte made the remark two days ahead of Sara's inauguration in Davao City on Sunday.

"Maybe, it would be the first time, I don’t know, but I have yet to look into the archives of our country. But si Inday, my vice-mayor, would swear sa loyalty nya sa Constitution and to the country ngayong June 19. Si Bongbong Marcos would take his oath in the office on June 30 pa,” Duterte said in a speech.

(Maybe, it would be the first time, I don’t know, but I have yet to look into the archives of our country. But Inday, my vice-mayor, would swear her loyalty to the Constitution and to the country this June 19. Bongbong Marcos would take his oath of office on June 30.)

“So at that time, at that point in time sa history, ang Presidente ako pa. June 30 pa ‘yung isa eh. Pero may Vice President na nag-oath of office na. So in... how many days it would be? Eleven, oo tama 11 days, ang Presidente ninyo Duterte, ang Vice President ninyo Duterte. Kaya sabihin ko kay Inday, ituloy na lang natin ito,” he said.

“Hindi biro lang," Duterte said. "But it's really a queer situation."

(So at that time, at that point in time in history, the President will still be me because the next one would lead on June 30. But the new Vice President has already taken her oath. So in about — how many days it would be? Eleven, right, 11 days, your President and Vice President would be Dutertes. So I’ll tell Inday, why don’t we just continue it? Just kidding.)

The terms of office of outgoing elected officials, including the Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo, will end on June 30. The incoming elected executives will take over on the same date.

Earlier, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Duterte was considering becoming a teacher after the end of his term. —NB, GMA News
