Philippines logs 539 new COVID-19 cases, active tally up to 3,829


The Philippines on Friday registered 539 new COVID-19 cases—a new record high in over two months.

The number of new cases is the highest since 690 was recorded on April 3. There were 425 logged on Thursday.

The new infections brought the number of active COVID-19 cases to 3,829, up by a few hundreds from the 3,462 recorded the day before.

The national case load went up to 3,695,068. More patients recovered from the viral disease increasing the country’s recovery tally to 3,630,772.

Meanwhile, the Philippines’ death tally climbed to 60,467.

Among the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,933, followed by Calabarzon with 558, Western Visayas with 305, Central Luzon with 286, and Central Visayas 160.

According to the latest data, at least 5,508 beds were occupied, while 24,836 were vacant as the bed occupancy in the country stood at 18.2%

The DOH reported a total of 17,072 individuals were tested, while 320 testing labs submitted data as of June 16. —NB, GMA News
