Sara Duterte bares details of June 19 inauguration in Davao City

Vice President-elect Sara Duterte has shared details and significance of her chosen venue with only a few days left before her inauguration in Davao City on June 19.

Duterte will be sworn into office as the 15th vice president of the Philippines by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.

Asked why she chose Hernando, Duterte said: “He is a former professor. He and his wife are my good friends for over 10 years.”

She will be spending the night before her inauguration at her home in Davao City.

The inauguration will be held at San Pedro Square starting at 3 p.m. and will end at 11 p.m.

It will start with a thanksgiving Mass at the San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles.

The outgoing Davao City mayor said she chose the San Pedro Square as the venue of her inauguration because “it is in between the City Hall and San Pedro Cathedral.”

She also said that a new Bible “given as a gift” will be used for her oath-taking.

Asked why she chose the University of Mindanao Alumni Chorale to sing in her inauguration, Duterte said “because they symbolize Davao or Mindanao.”

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte will attend the inauguration of his daughter, according to the incoming vice president’s spokesman and Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco.

However, there is no information yet whether Duterte's running mate in the elections, President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., will attend the inauguration.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), on the other hand, will implement a gun ban for the separate inauguration rites of Marcos in Manila and Duterte in Davao City.

Police Major General Valeriano de Leon, PNP Director for Operations, said the gun ban in Davao Region will be in effect from June 16 to 21 for Duterte's inaugural ceremony on June 19 and on June 27 to July 2 in Metro Manila for Marcos' oath taking set on June 30.

He said at least 3,700 policemen will be tapped to secure the oath taking of Duterte while at least 6,000 will be deployed for the oath taking of Marcos.—Richa Noriega/AOL, GMA News
