Simultaneous flag-raising, wreath-laying to be held in historical sites on Independence Day —NCHP

Simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying will be conducted in some national historical sites as the country commemorates its 124th Independence Day on June 12, according to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

Interviewed at the Laging Handa public briefing on Saturday, NHCP senior researcher Francis Kristoffer Pasion said the sites where the flag-raising and wreath-laying will be held include the Barasoian Church in
Malolos, Bulacan, the Andres Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City, and the Mactan Shrine in Cebu.

President Rodrigo Duterte meanwhile will lead the commemoration of Independence Day at Rizal Park. The occasion will mark the last time Duterte will be leading the event as president since his term of office ends on June 30.

The riding public will also enjoy free MRT3 and LRT rides on June 12.

Meanwhile, a socio-civic parade, some cultural shows, and a job fair will be held in Kawit, Cavite, the municipality where Emilio Aguinaldo, the first Philippine president, declared Independence Day on June 12, 1898.

"Isa sa mga paraan para ipagdiwang ang kalayaan ay maging isang mabuting Pilipino, dapat aware tayo sa ating duties and responsibilities bilang isang mamamayan. Sumunod sa patakaran ng ating lipunan," Pasion said.

(One of the ways to celebrate our independence is by being a good Filipino, we should be aware of our duties and responsibilities as citizens. Let us follow the rules of society.)

"Ang pagiging makabayan ay nagta-transcend hindi lang sa pagpapakita ng Philippine flag, ito ay nakikita rin sa ating paghahangad na maiangat ang sarili," he added.
