Philippines reports 192 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 2,440
The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday logged 192 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the total nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,692,084.
This is the third straight day with less than 200 new infections.
Based on DOH's latest data, the country’s active cases slightly increased to 2,440 from 2,437 on Tuesday.
No new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last six days while a total of 3,629,188 people have been counted as recoveries from the virus.
According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 1,191, followed by Calabarzon with 375, and Central Luzon with 217.
The Health department said at least 18,063 individuals were tested, while 321 testing labs submitted data on June 7.
It noted that the bed occupancy in the country was 17.4%, with 5,298 beds occupied, while 25,190 vacant.
OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that the daily average cases of COVID-19 infections in Metro Manila have increased by 14% as of Wednesday.
David said, based on the seven-day average, daily cases in the capital region are now at 90 compared to last week’s 79.
The lowest cases, he said, were monitored three weeks ago where only 63 additional coronavirus infections were recorded per day.—LDF, GMA News
