NCR COVID-19 daily average cases up by 14% —OCTA Research

The daily average cases of COVID-19 infections in Metro Manila have increased by 14% as of Wednesday, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said.

David said, based on the seven-day average, daily cases in the capital region are now at 90 compared to last week’s 79. The lowest cases, he said, were monitored three weeks ago where only 63 additional coronavirus infections were recorded per day.

"'Pag titingnan natin ang seven-day average, actually, kahapon 'yung 10%, ngayong 14% na. Umabot na tayo sa 90 cases per day sa Metro Manila. Noong nakaraang linggo, it was at 79 cases per day. If iko-compare natin, this is 14% higher," he said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

While there was an uptick, he clarified this is not a case of concern as Metro Manila remains at “low risk” for COVID-19 infections.

“Unti-unting tumataas 'yung cases. From 63 ngayon nasa 90 cases per day. Hindi pa naman mataas pero may slight concern na bahagyang tumataas kada linggo ang bilang ng kaso sa Metro Manila,” David said.

(The cases are slowly increasing. From 63, now we have 90 cases per day. This is not high but there’s a slight concern because there is an increase every week in the cases in Metro Manila.)

Likewise, David pointed out that the positivity rate and COVID-19 reproduction rate in Metro Manila are slowly increasing.

He explained the increase was due to multiple factors including the entrance of Omicron sub-variants in the country, waning immunity of vaccinated individuals, and their complacency from following minimum health standards.

He called on the public to continue adhering to minimum public health standards and avail of the free coronavirus vaccines and booster shots.

“Maganda nag-iingat na tayo bago pa man magkaroon ng pagtaas. Hindi pa naman natin nasasabing tataas talaga ito pero mas mabuti nang may pag-iingat tayo sa ngayon,” he said.

(It’s better that we’re being careful even before the surge. We cannot say if it will further spike but we should start being cautious now.)

Apart from Metro Manila, the OCTA Research group has also monitored a slight bump in coronavirus infections in several provinces in the Calabarzon region, Central Luzon, and Western Visayas.

As of Tuesday, June 7, the Department of Health registered 168 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total nationwide tally to 3,691,892 with 2,437 active cases.

No new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last five days while a total of 3,628,999 people have been counted as recoveries from the virus.—AOL, GMA News
