Duterte: My government contained COVID-19

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said that his administration was able to contain the coronavirus disease infections in the country in a short period of time.

Duterte made the remark after most cities and regions in the country remain under minimal risk case classification against COVID-19 and the high vaccination turnout among Filipinos.

"If I were to judge myself, the one single thing that my government did was to contain COVID-19 in a very much earlier span of time," Duterte said.

"And to think 'yung iba (bansa) sa ngayon na nagkakakaroon ng surge simply because, maybe the citizens of the country do not want to follow regulations," he added.

The President went on saying that he and his Cabinet members 'did their best" for the betterment of the country.

“We did our best and 'yung best namin came out very strong in the context of governing a country. Lalo na sa Cabinet members ko,” Duterte stressed.

The Philippines improved its ranking in the Tokyo-based news magazine Nikkei Asia COVID-19 recovery rankings, moving to 33rd place from December 2021's 57th place.

Based on its May 31 report released on Friday, the Philippines, along with Vietnam, recorded their “best performances” last month for keeping the COVID-19 infections low while managing to ease restrictions.

The Department of Health earlier said that it recorded a total of 1,295 new COVID-19 cases from May 30 to June 5, 2022, a 1.4% lower tally than the cases reported the previous week.

Vaccination

Meanwhile, Duterte asked medical professionals and those who helped in the COVID-19 vaccination to find those who have not yet been vaccinated.

“I know that you are all bone-weary. Alam kong pagod na kayo sa trabaho ninyo but you must remember that it is our country and only country and you have to stretch your effort and do some more for our country,” he said.
