Sara Duterte VP inauguration to push through in Davao on June 19 with Mass, concert

Vice President-elect Sara Duterte will have her inauguration in Davao City on June 19, her office announced Saturday.

Among those invited to the inauguration were Sara's father, President Rodrigo Duterte, President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and Vice President Leni Robredo, as well as former presidents and vice presidents, according to Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco, spokesperson for the incoming vice president.

The inauguration will be held at San Pedro Square starting at 3 p.m. and will end at 11 p.m. The public will be allowed in the area beginning at 2 p.m.

The event will start with a thanksgiving Mass at 3 p.m. at the San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles.

Duterte's camp said the Mass will be shown via livestream on LED walls on San Pedro Street reaching the corner of CM Recto and Anda Streets, Bolton Street, and up to the corner of Magallanes and Rizal Streets.

This will be followed by the inaugural ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the stage area. Duterte will be sworn into office as the 15th vice president of the Philippines by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.

The Musikahan-Pasasalamat concert will then start at 6 p.m. which will be participated in by a number of artists, among them Andrew E, Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña, Njel de Mesa, and Wency Cornejo. Giselle Sanchez will be the host of the program.

The Davao City Police will deploy around 2,000 policemen in the area.

Duterte's camp reminded the public to observe health and safety protocols such as wearing of face masks, sanitizing hands regularly, and practicing cough and sneezing etiquette.

All those attending the event will go through security screening at entry points.

Attendees are advised not to wear backpacks and jackets and not to bring pointed objects.

A separate area will be made available for persons with disability, senior citizens, and visibly pregnant women.

Meanwhile, several streets around the Davao City Hall and neighboring areas will be closed to motorists on June 18 to 19 for the event. Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic.

Duterte was proclaimed the winner of the vice presidential race in Eleksyon 2022 on May 25 with 32,208,417 votes.

Her running mate, Marcos, was proclaimed the winner of the presidential race.

Their six-year terms will begin on June 30.

Duterte earlier said she wanted to honor her fellow Davaoeños by making them actually witness her oath-taking as vice president.
