UP drops, DLSU keep its spot in THE Asian university rankings

The University of the Philippines (UP) dropped a few notches from its previous rankings, while the De La Salle University (DLSU) maintained its spot, according to a United Kingdom-based higher education magazine.

UP fell to 129th place, from the 84th spot, in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asian Rankings 2022, as DLSU remained in the 401 to 500 bracket.

UP and DLSU are the only schools from the Philippines that placed in the 2022 list of THE, which ranked 616 higher education institutions (HEIs) from 31 territories in Asia.

To make the list, HEIs are assessed based on 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and income industry.

Meanwhile, the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) was listed as a “reporter” in the rankings.

THE says the "reporter" status indicates they are active participants in the rankings process, even though they have not been ranked this year.

The top 10 universities in the Asia for 2022 are:

  1. Tsinghua University (China)
  2. Peking University (China)
  3. National University of Singapore
  4. University of Hong Kong
  5. Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)
  6. The University of Tokyo (Japan)
  7. Chinese University of Hong Kong
  8. Seoul National University (South Korea)
  9. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  10. Fudan University (China)
