Duterte eyeing life as a teacher in Davao after presidency
President Rodrigo Duterte is considering becoming a teacher once his term as chief executive expires on June 30, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Monday.
I really don’t know [what he really plans to do next]; he said he was going to teach… sa Davao," Medialdea said in a chance interview with reporters during the Duterte Legacy event.
"Patapos na nga siya [mag-empake]. Two, three months ago nagpapadala na siya ng gamit niya. Mga personal things inuna na niya. Karamihan, [doon sa] Davao lahat siyempre; doon 'yun pupunta," he added.
(He is almost done packing. Two, three months ago, he started sending his things [to Davao]. He prioritized personal things. Most of those will be sent to Davao.)
Likewise, Medialdea said that the President has not received a formal offer to serve as an anti-drug czar under the administration of incoming President Bongbong Marcos.
"Hindi ko alam 'yan [na inoffer]. Alam ko may pahiwatig, pero wala pa akong alam whether he will accept it or not," Medialdea said.
(I don't know if an offer was made. What I know is that there were feelers, but I do not know if he will accept it or not.)
"Hindi pa naman official, dyaryo-dyaryo lang naman lahat," he added.
(It is not yet official; it's just reported in the papers.)
Medialdea said since Marcos was proclaimed winner of the 2022 presidential race, the Duterte administration transition team has met with their counterparts with the Marcos camp once.
"Nagmi-meeting na kami nu'ng after the proclamation of the incoming President. We’ve met once. With Vic [Rodriguez]," Medialdea said, referring to his successor.
(We had a meeting after the proclamation of the incoming President.)
"We just talked about the venue of the inauguration [on June 30] because there are transition teams for each department. As for me, we're in charge of the venue," he added.
Medialdea said that the last cabinet meeting of the Duterte administration is likely to be held on Monday, May 30. —KG, GMA News
