CHR's nationwide findings on EJKs validated regional report in 2021, says ex-commissioner

The Philippine government should take “very seriously” the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) report on the alleged culture of impunity in the war on drugs, former Commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana said.

In the latest episode of The Mangahas Interviews, Pimentel-Gana said the 2022 report on Investigated Killings In Relation to the Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign “validated” their initial findings released in November 2021 which showed  a “widespread nature of killings” in drug incidents reported in Metro Manila, Region IV-A (CALABARZON) and Region 3 (Central Luzon).

“It’s very important to note that the findings in the initial investigation reflected dito sa national scope. In other words, the pattern is actually the same in the EJK (extrajudicial killings) that we observed,” Pimentel-Gana said.

“The government should take this very seriously and do something about it. Kasi it’s already a common denominator sa lahat, ang pattern na sinabi namin na na-observe namin,” she added.
