Congress eyes proclamation of winning president, VP Wednesday

Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), is eyeing to proclaim the winners of the 2022 presidential and vice presidential race Wednesday, a lawmaker said.

Ako Bicol party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin, a member of the House contingent for the NBOC, made the announcement with at least 105 certificates of canvass (COC) already tallied by board.

The NBOC deferred the canvassing of votes from Surigao del Sur, Pampanga, Sultan Kudarat, and Mandaluyong City due to missing COCs.

"We expect these COCs to be physically delivered today so we can canvass and tally the same before we end the canvassing for presidential and vice presidential race," Garbin said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

"We are already done with 105 COCs and there are 65 COCs to go. We expected to finish the canvassing by 5 or 6 pm this afternoon. That is the trajectory, and iyon rin ang gusto ng House and Senate leadership, that we finish this afternoon," he added.

Based on the partial and unofficial tally, former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the Eleksyon 2022 presidential race with 31,104,175 votes followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with 14,822,051 votes.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, daughter of outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte, was the leading vice presidential bet with 31,561,948 votes, followed by Senator Francis Pangilinan with 9,232,883 votes.—AOL, GMA News
