Marcos Jr. meets some supporters in Australia

Presumptive president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday met with some Filipino supporters in Melbourne, Australia.

Marcos thanked his supporters who were waiting for him to come outside the building where he was staying with his family: "Thank you everyone, maraming maraming salamat sa inyo..."

"Mahal na mahal po namin kayo dito, huwag po kayong maniniwala sa iba... we love you here," a teary-eyed supporter said. "Ganito sila ka-humble binaba nila kami..."

In the video, supporters, who were also carrying a Philippine flag, can be heard singing "Bagong Lipunan" and some campaign songs of the BBM-Sara UniTeam.

Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos' spokesman, said the former senator is in Australia for a "much needed rest and vacation" after a grueling election campaign.

He will return to the Philippines on Thursday, Rodriguez said.

A Reuters report citing the Age newspaper said Marcos' trip to Australia was greeted with protest.

Rodriguez has called the protest by Filipinos in Australia "shameful," adding that the Australian government, not the Filipinos living there, should decide whether Marcos is welcome in the country or not.—LDF, GMA News
