Philippines records 1,118 new COVID-19 cases from May 9-15, 2022

The Philippines logged 1,118 new COVID-19 cases from May 9 to May 15, 2022, a 0.3% lower tally than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

According to the DOH’s weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 160. This was slightly lower compared to the 161 recorded from May 2 to May 8, with 1,124 new COVID-19 infections.

Data also showed that 588 severe and critical COVID-19 cases were currently in hospitals.

Of the 2,812 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 438 or 15.6% were occupied. Meanwhile, 4,141 or 17.5% of the 23,707 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were 14 individuals tagged as new severe or critical cases.

A total of 68,665,070 individuals or 76.29% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Of this number, 227,272 were vaccinated from May 9 to 15.

The DOH also noted that 13,620,199 had received their booster shots, 165,332 of whom received boosters from May 9 to 15.

Meanwhile, at least 6.7 million senior citizens, or 77.12% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

There were also 16 more verified COVID-19 deaths last week, according to the DOH. Of these, eight deaths occurred between April 25 to May 8.

Of the 16 deaths, 12 occurred in May 2022 (75.0%), and 4 in April 2022 (25.0%). — DVM, GMA News
