Comelec: Canvassing for senators, party-list to resume Tuesday as votes yet to come in
The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) on Monday announced the canvassing of votes for senatorial and party-list races will resume on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 as votes have yet to come in.
At past 3 p.m. on Monday, the NBOC was convened to canvass the votes for senators and party-list groups, but later on suspended session to wait for the transmission of the votes.
“The chair declared early suspension, hindi pa naman magta-transmit yung ating mga vote counting machines (VCMs),” Comelec commissioner Aimee Ferolino said at the press briefing.
“And the report from the VCMs has to pass through the NBOC and the PBOC so remember magko-close ang voting generally by 7 p.m. so after pa noon tsaka magka-count. So there is no point of waiting kasi wala pa naman talaga mare-receive na results that is why we will resume tomorrow pag mayroon ng mata-transmit to the NBOC,” she added.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said canvassing of votes in the municipal, city and provincial levels will continue on Monday night.
“Ang suspended ang national canvassing for senators and partylist. Wala pang dadating na certificates of canvass nyan mamaya. Zero pa. Bukas pa. Pero tuloy tuloy ang canvassing ng municipal, city and provincial after counting tonight,” Garcia said.
Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said the temporary suspension of proceedings of the NBOC will not affect the transmission to the transparency servers.
“The declaration of the temporary suspension of proceedings will not in any way affect the transmission because all the results coming from the city boards of canvassers and provincial board of canvassers will be received by us even though we are in recess,” he said in a separate interview.
The NBOC will canvass the votes and proclaim the winning senatorial candidates and party-list groups.
"It shall meet continuously from day to day until the canvass is completed, and may adjourn but only for the purpose of awaiting the other COCs (certificates of canvass). The canvass shall be open and public," the Comelec said in its Resolution 10786 issued on May 2.
