Comelec convenes as National Board of Canvassers for senatorial, party-list elections
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday formally convened as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) for the senatorial and party-list races for Eleksyon 2022.
During the session presided over by Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan, several representatives of candidates and political parties witnessed the opening of plastic boxes containing the consolidation and canvassing (CCS) laptops.
The NBOC, composed of all Comelec commissioners, initialized the consolidation.
The parties were allowed to inspect the CCS laptops.
The NBOC shall canvass the votes and proclaim the winning senatorial candidates and party-list groups.
"It shall meet continuously from day to day until the canvass is completed, and may adjourn but only for the purpose of awaiting the other COCs (certificates of canvass). The canvass shall be open and public," the Comelec said in its Resolution 10786 issued on May 2.
Congress is responsible for canvassing votes and proclaiming the winners of the presidential and vice presidential contests.
No votes to canvass yet
At past 5 p.m., the NBOC announced it is suspending its session to wait for the transmission of votes for senators and party-list. Canvassing of votes will resume on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said that at the municipal, city and provincial levels canvassing will continue on Monday night.
“Ang suspended ang national canvassing for senators and partylist. Wala pang dadating na certificates of canvass nyan mamaya. Zero pa. Bukas pa. Pero tuloy tuloy ang canvassing ng municipal, city and provincial after counting tonight,” Garcia said.—VBL, GMA News
