Palace to declare May 3, 2022 a national holiday in honor of Eid’l Fitr
Malacañang will declare Tuesday, May 3, 2022 a national holiday in honor of Eid'l Fitr, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Sunday.
Eid'l Fitr is the Muslim holiday that breaks the fast of the holy month of Ramadan. On Sunday, the Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta announced that its commemoration will begin on Monday, May 2.
Muslim leaders determine the date of Eid'l Fitr during a traditional moon-sighting ceremony 29 days into Ramadan. The sighting of a new moon will mean that the next day is Eid. If the moon is not sighted, Muslims fast for another day to complete 30 days.
