Eid’l Fitr celebration to begin on Monday, May 2, 2022
The Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta on Sunday announced that the celebration of Eid’l Fitr will begin on Monday, May 2.
In a virtual briefing, Grand Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan announced the starting date for the event, following the traditional moon-sighting session conducted over the weekend, during which a new moon was seen.
One of the most important occasions in Islam, and known as the festival of the breaking of the fast, Eid’l Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which started on Sunday, April 3, this year.
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim on Sunday also urged the public to maintain caution and the minimum public health standards in celebrations.
This comes amid the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the upcoming national elections this month.
“Naway manaig ang kapayapaan, pasensya, at pag-intindi natin sa bawat isa. ‘Wag nating hayaan na makasira sa ating pagaayuno ang hindi pagkakapareho ng ating mga pananaw sa usapin ng pulitika,” he said.
[May peace, patience, and understanding prevail in everyone. Let us not let differences in political beliefs impact our fasting.]
Ebrahim also called on those who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 to get their shots, with an upcoming special vaccination in the region. — BM, GMA News
