Philippines logs 1,465 new COVID-19 cases from April 18–24, 2022

The Philippines recorded a total of 1,465 new COVID-19 cases from April 18 to April 24, 2022, 12% lower than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

According to the DOH’s weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 209. This was lower compared to the 239 recorded from April 11 to 17, with 1,674 new COVID-19 infections.

There were also 213 new cases reported on Monday, the DOH said in a later update, bringing the nationwide tally to 3,684,712.

The country’s active case count further decreased to 12,639 on Monday from the 13,660 recorded on Sunday, when 205 new COVID-19 infections were recorded.

The active cases on Monday was the lowest since December 8, 2021 when 12,510 infections were logged. 

Data also show that 726 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19.

Of the 2,841 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 479 or 16.9% were occupied. Meanwhile 4,112 or 16.9% of the 24,309 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there was no one tagged as a new severe or critical case.

More than 67.4 million individuals or 74.98% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The DOH said some 12.9 million have received their booster shots.

The government started the administration of the second COVID-19 booster shot for the immunocompromised population in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday, April 25.

So far, the FDA has granted the emergency use authorization for the second booster shot for senior citizens, the immunocompromised, and frontline health workers.

Meanwhile, at least 6.6 million senior citizens or 76.35% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

There were also 213 more verified deaths last week, according to DOH. Of this, 31 deaths occurred between April 11 to 24.

Of the 213 deaths, 43 occurred in April 2022 (20.2%), 14 in March 2022 (6.6%), 8 in February 2022 (3.8%), 13 in January 2022 (6.1%), 14 in December 2021 (6.6%), 7 in November 2021 (3.3%), 4 in October 2021 (1.9%), 41 in September 2021 (19.2%), 25 in August 2021 (11.7%), 10 in July 2021 (4.7%), 6 in June 2021 (2.8%), 4 in May 2021 (1.9%), 13 in April 2021 (6.1%), 5 in March 2021 (2.3%), 1 in February 2021 (0.5%), 2 in November 2020 (0.9%), 2 in September 2020 (0.9%), and 1 in August 2020 (0.5%).—AOL, GMA News
