NDRRMC: Over P64M worth of assistance given to Agaton victims


Assistance worth P64,028,560 has been provided to regions affected by the Tropical Depression Agaton, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

In its 8.m. report, the NDRRMC said financial aid, family food packs, tents, kitchen sets, among others were given to victims in Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

The reported death toll remained at 178, missing persons at 111, and injured people at eight.

Only the reports on 18 deaths, seven missing people, and six injured people have been confirmed so far, the NDRRMC said.

Initially, the NDRRMC said there were 224 reported fatalities, 147 missing, and eight injured due to Agaton. But the council retracted the report, saying the new figures are still under verification with pending documents.

A total of 2,081,011 people or 599,956 families were affected by Agaton in 2,421 barangays in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

Of these the number 109,518 individuals or 29,911 families were served inside 447 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC said 11,279 houses were damaged — 10,519 partially and 760 totally — in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

Damage to agriculture, meanwhile, reached P257,025,441 in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro.

Also, an aggregate of P6,950,000 in damage to infrastructure was reported in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro.

A total of 459 flooding incidents, 98 landslides, six flash floods, and three maritime incidents were reported due to Agaton, the NDRRMC said, adding that at least 58 roads and eight bridges were still unpassable.

Meanwhile, 76 cities and municipalities experienced power interruption, of which 12 have been restored. Three areas also experienced water supply interruptions.

Forty-one ports suspended trips or have implemented suspension of operations, of which, seven have already resumed operations. A total of 2,590 passengers; 1,124 rolling cargoes; 11 vessels; and a motorbanca remained stranded in some affected regions.

A total of 18 cities and municipalities declared a state of calamity, including Sara, Lemery, Passi, Pototan, and Batad in Iloilo, Cateel in Davao Oriental, Trento in Agusan del Sur, and the entire province of Davao de Oro.
