Robredo meets with Sumilao farmers in Naga
Farmers from Higaonon tribe in Sumilao, Bukidnon met with Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo in Naga on Sunday, as a stopover on their march in support of her presidential bid.
In a post on social media, Robredo said she—along with her daughters—met with the Sumilao farmers and other farmers’ organizations for lunch after the family attended Easter Mass.
Robredo captioned her post by thanking her colleagues in Saligan for accommodating the farmers, who started their march in Bukidnon on March 28 targeted to end in Luzon on May 7.
“Maraming salamat din sa Sumilao Farmers sa sakripisyo at sa paglaban para sa tama sa gitna ng maraming kahirapan,” she said in the post.
[Thank you to the Sumilao Farmers for their sacrifice and for their fight for what is good in the middle of difficulty.]
Robredo assisted the Sumilao farmers organization in reclaiming their ancestral domain in 2007, joining them in their march from Bukidnon to Manila for their cause. They were eventually granted 94 hectares of land.
She was a lawyer for the Saligan non-government organization which helped in the case.
In a meeting in February, Robredo told the farmers she will push for the amendment of the Rice Tariffication law should she be elected president, saying the law is a burden to farmers. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
