Reported Agaton death toll climbed to 137 —NDRRMC

The reported death toll due to the onslaught of Tropical Depression Agaton climbed to 137 as of Friday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said 128 of the reported fatalities were from Eastern Visayas, six from Western Visayas, and three from Davao City.

Likewise, the NDRRMC said 28 people were still missing and eight were reported injured.

Only the reports on seven deaths, six injured, and one missing have been confirmed so far, according to the NDRRMC.

A total of 1,689,436 people or 494,607 families were affected by Agaton in 2,068 barangays in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

A total of 9,622 houses were damaged -- 9,052 partially and 570 totally -- in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

Damage to agriculture reached P186,632,976 in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro, according to the NDRRMC.

Also, P6,950,000 in damage to infrastructure was reported in Western Visayas, Central Visayas,  Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro.

Moreover, the NDRRMC said 580 flooding incidents, 89 landslides, six flash floods, three maritime incidents, and an overflowing river were reported in the Agaton's wake.

At least 73 roads and six bridges were rendered unpassable.

A total of 75 cities and municipalities experienced power interruption, of which 11 have been restored. Three areas also experienced water supply interruptions.

Forty-one ports suspended trips or have implemented suspension of operations, of which, two have already resumed operations. A total of 8,769 passengers; 2,297 rolling cargoes; 14 vessels; and a motor banca remained stranded in some affected regions.

Also, NDRRMC said 188 classes and 138 work schedules have been suspended due to Agaton.

A total of 15 cities and municipalities declared a state of calamity, including Sara and Lemery in Iloilo, Cateel in Davao Oriental, Trento in Agusan del Sur, and the entire province of Davao de Oro.

According to the NDRRMC, assistance worth P40,249,671 has been provided to the affected areas. —LBG, GMA News
