43 reported dead, 8 injured, 7 missing due to Agaton — NDRRMC spox

The reported death toll due to the onslaught of Tropical Depression Agaton has climbed to 43 as of Wednesday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

“As of this morning's reporting, ang ating total reported na fatalities ay umabot na ng 43 katao ang nasawi dahil po dito kay Agaton,” NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC added that eight people were reported injured and seven were reported missing. It noted that one fatality, one missing person, and six injured people have been confirmed.

According to the NDRRMC, 37 of the reported fatalities came from Baybay City in Leyte, three from Negros Oriental, two from Monkayo in Davao de Oro, and one from Cateel in Davao Oriental.

“Thirty-seven po diyan ay biktima ng landslide na naganap po dyan sa Baybay, Leyet at ongoing pa rin po ang operations po doon sa area,” Timbal said.

(Thirty-seven of them were victims of the landslide in Baybay, Leyte and the operations there are still ongoing.)

The NDRRMC said a total of 580,876 people or 213,327 families were affected by Agaton in 924 barangays in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

Around 34,583 people or 13,788 families are staying in 348 evacuation centers.

A total of 341 houses were damaged—322 partially and 19 totally—in Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

A total of P51,398,517 worth of damage in agriculture were reported in Eastern Visayas, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro, while P250,000 worth of damage in infrastructure in Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The NDRRMC said 407 flooding incidents, 43 landslides, six flash floods, three maritime incidents, and an overflowing river were reported.

At least 50 roads and six bridges were not passable.

The NDRRMC reported a total of 69 cities and municipalities that experienced power interruption, of which seven have been restored.

Three areas also experienced water supply interruptions.

Forty-one ports suspended trips or have implemented suspension of operations. A total of 8,706 passengers, 2,524 rolling cargoes, 21 vessels, and a motorbanca were still stranded in some affected regions.

According to the NDRRMC, 162 classes and 115 work schedules have been suspended due to Agaton.

A total of 13 cities and municipalities declared a state of calamity due to Agaton, the NDRRMC said. These included Cateel in Davao Oriental, Trento in Davao del Sur, and the entire province of Davao de Oro. — RSJ, GMA News
