MMDA asks LTO to issue same ending plate to motorists registering new cars

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to issue plate licenses with the same last digits to motorists registering their new vehicles.

MMDA chairman Romando Artes on Monday said the agency has sent a formal letter to the LTO on its proposal aimed at discouraging Filipinos from buying more cars which they use as alternate vehicle for the number coding scheme.

“Sumulat ang MMDA sa LTO para ang bibili ng bagong sasakyan na may existing na sasakyan ang ma-issue na ending plate ng bago niyang bibilhing sasakyan ay katulad ng existing na sasakyan nila,” said Artes at the weekly Talk to the People.

(MMDA has written to LTO so motorists who will buy new vehicles will have the same ending plate with their existing cars.)

“Kunwari si Juan bumili ng sasakyan mayroon na siyang dating sasakyan ang ending plate ay 0, hihilingin po natin sa LTO na ang i-issue na plaka sa bagong sasakyan ay 0 din para di makaiwas sa number coding scheme,” he said.

(For example, Juan will buy a car but he already has one with an ending plate of 0, we will ask the LTO that the ending plate of his new car is 0 so he cannot evade coding.)

The official likewise rejected claims the proposed amended coding scheme by the MMDA is “anti-poor” stressing public utility vehicles are exempted from it.—LDF, GMA News
