DOH: Philippines logged 1,906 new COVID-19 cases from April 4-10, 2022

The Philippines on Monday recorded a total of 1,906 new COVID-19 cases from April 4 to April 10, 2022 which was 29% lower than the cases reported the previous week.

According to the Department of Health’s (DOH) weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 272.

The daily case average was lower compared to the 382 recorded from March 28 to April 3, with 2,679 new COVID-19 infections.

There were also 273 new cases reported on Monday, the DOH said in a later update, bringing the nationwide tally to 3,681,646.

The country’s active case count decreased to 27,353 from the 28,380 recorded on Sunday.

Data also showed that 707 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19.

Of the 2,951 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 542 or 18.4% were occupied. Meanwhile 4,045 or 16.4% of the 24,689 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, no one was tagged as a new severe or critical case.

More than 66.6 million individuals or 74.05% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The DOH said 12.4 million have received their booster shots.

Philippine College of Physicians president Dr. Maricar Limpin on Sunday raised alarm over the possible entry into the Philippines of the "Omicron XE" subvariant and the low rate of booster shot coverage of Filipinos.

She said the country may experience a surge in COVID-19 cases in May due to this.

Meanwhile, at least 6.6 million senior citizens or 76.12% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.
