Charges recommended against man over alleged Twitter threat vs. Bongbong
The Office of the City Prosecutor in Quezon City on Monday recommended the filing of grave threat against a driver over alleged death threats against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The city prosecutor identified the respondent as Michael Go and the complainants as Marcos and Ken Romualdez.
Go is accused of violating Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Romualdez and the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit filed the complaint following a tweet threatening to shoot Marcos, son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
"I was blocked by Marcos Jr in 2016. Paki sabi magingat siya sa Tandang Sora QC. Pag dumaan siya dun babarilin ko siya. Di ako takot makulong. Hindi rin ako takot mamatay. Isang malaking karangalan ipaghiganti mga kasama ko aktibista biktima ng karahasan panahon ng martial law," the tweet said.
(I was blocked by Marcos Jr. in 2016. Tell him to be cautious in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. If he goes there, I will shoot him. I am not scared to get imprisoned. It would be a great honor to avenge my fellow activists who were victims of violence during the Martial Law.)
A report by Saksi on Friday said Go surrendered to the police to clear his name. He reportedly denied the charges, saying he does not have a Twitter account.
The city prosecutor said grave threat is a crime against public security.
“Article 282 penalizes any person who shall threaten another with the infliction upon the person, honor, or property of the latter or of his family of any wrong amounting to a crime,” it said.
The city prosecutor recommended a P72,000 bail for the respondents' temporary freedom. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
