Wage board junks TUCP's petition for P470 hike in minimum wage

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has dismissed the petition of Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) seeking to raise minimum wage in Metro Manila to P1,007.

According to a report on "24 Oras", the Department of Labor and Employment, RTWPB-National Capital Region (NCR) said the TUCP’s petition was not covered by their jurisdiction.

TUCP on March 14 filed a petition for a daily wage increase of P470 in the NCR to be added to the existing minimum wage of P537.

The group said the current minimum daily wage could only give workers and their families “nutritionally deficient survival meals.”

It also said that the present monthly take-home pay of P12,843.48 was “far below” the supposed monthly wage of P16,625.00 poverty threshold for a family of five in Metro Manila.

TUCP Spokesperson Alan Tan Jusay has expressed dismay over the decision, insisting that RTWPB favored the business sector instead of the workers.

Jusay said they will file another petition regarding the matter. —Mel Matthew Doctor/NB, GMA News
