Mindanao key to Philippine electricity, oil stability —Isko

HINAPLONAN, Iligan — Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno on Wednesday said he believes that Mindanao is the key to stabilizing electricity and oil prices in the country.

“So Mindanao is the key to our stability para sa langis, sa methane, at natural gas. So hindi mo na kailangan pumunta pa ng dagat,” Moreno told reporters.

According to the Aksyon Demokratiko bet, the Liguasan Marsh in the Mindanao River Basin is composed of natural gas and possible oil.

“So nagpapatunay na talaga na ang Mindanao ang maaring magligtas sa ating bansa sa pangangailangan natin sa araw-araw at darating na panahon, partikular na sa langis,” he said.

Moreno again raised the P203-billion estate tax debt of the Marcos family, saying the money could be used for exploration of the Liguasan marsh.

“Just imagine, it would only cost around P2 billion to initially explore that possible Ligwasan marsh na makakatulong sa atin na makuha natin initially ‘yung methane gas na kayang mag-produce ng sapat na kuryente o gamitin para makapag produce ng kuryente sa buong bansa,” he said.

“So magiging sustainable o kumbaga stabilized ang presyo ng kuryente, and presyo ng krudo, kasi hindi na tayo dependent sa pag-aangkat ng mga bagay na ito,” he added.

Meanwhile, Moreno said he is open to reviving the National Steel Corporation in Iligan, if he is elected president.

Moreno stressed that the government must create more jobs to help the public recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

“Creating an industry like steel manufacturer or producing steel is a good venture for our country,” the presidential candidate said.

“Madali tayo matuto, madali tayo mag adjust. So tingin ko kaya natin ‘yun maibalik pagdating ng araw,” he later added.

Moreno had pushed for materials extracted from the country's mines to be used and processed locally, saying this will allow the Philippines to sell products to other countries. —LBG, GMA News
