Shifting bets to benefit Ka Leody and slate –PLM
Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), the political party of presidential candidate Leody de Guzman, said on Sunday that traditional politicians shifting their affiliations and support to other candidates ahead of the May 9 polls would only benefit the labor leader’s candidacy.
In a statement, PLM chair Sonny Melencio claimed that the “outright political turncoatism of traditional politicians and political parties of the elite” has awakened the voters and made them realize their option to support other candidates that do not have a record of transferring alliances.
“Ka Leody is without doubt a cut above the rest of the presidentiables since he has remained loyal to PLM but more importantly has proven through decades of struggle for economic and political reforms, has remained principled and steadfast in the pursuit of a better society,” he said.
De Guzman earlier said these recent maneuvers in traditional political parties were no longer surprising. He said these politicians were just discussing how to divide privilege and power that was why it was easy for them to form or drop an ally.
“For the longest time, the Filipino masses have been duped into choosing the lesser evil among candidates of the elite class of society. These politicians who do not differ in platforms or stances on major issues of the day have camouflaged their political and economic interests with grand gestures and promises of reforms and unity,” Melencio said. — DVM, GMA News
