Bongbong claims he’s a victim of fake news
Ex-Senator and presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. does not think he is the primary beneficiary of the proliferation of fake news on social media platforms, claiming that he is a victim of such.
"I don't see how that (myself benefitting from fake news) is [happening]. Para sa akin, ako ang nabibiktima ng fake news dahil ang dami daming sinabi na 'di totoo," Marcos said during the Go Negosyo forum.
(As far as I am concerned, I am a victim of fake news because they are saying a lot of lies.)
He, however, did not specify what the supposed lies against him were.
"Biktima kami diyan eh. Fina-fact check ako, na sinasabi hindi totoo yung mga sinasabi ko, wala naman akong sinabing ganun. Pero fake news daw yung sinabi ko... Iniimbento nila yung sinasabi ko, tapos sasabihing fake," he added.
(We are victims here. I am being fact checked, they are saying that what I am saying are lies when I did not say those...that I only say fake news. They invent statements supposedly I made and then they say I am the things I say are fake.)
Bongbong, son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, made the remarks two days after fellow presidential bet and Vice President Leni Robredo said that Marcos is the primary beneficiary of the disinformation materials dominating social media platforms.
Robredo was referring to the analysis published by independent organizations that she is the top target of disinformation content online while Marcos is the primary beneficiary of such false information.
But fact checkers, Marcos said, should not have political agenda.
"Fact checkers, kung minsan, may sariling agenda. Kaya fina-fact check lang nila iyong one side of the story. 'Yung kabila, hindi nila ginagawa. Tanggalin natin yung mga ganun," he added without specifying what are those hidden agendas are.
(Fact checkers sometimes have a hidden agenda, they only fact check one side. They don't fact check the other side. We should get rid of that.) — RSJ, GMA News
