Lacson: We need a competent, experienced leader who can fight for the Filipino people
Senator Panfilo Lacson emphasized on Saturday the importance of having experience, competence, and a track record when it comes to running a country.
In his closing statement during the Commission on Elections' first presidential debate, Lacson cited his accomplishments and track record during his time in the military, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and in the Senate.
"Mula sa pagiging sundalo at alagad ng batas na lumaban sa terorismo, rebeldeng komunista, at mga pusakal na kriminal, bilang chief [of the PNP] na nagpatino at naglinis sa hanay ng kapulisan, bilang senador na kailanman hindi nabahiran ng korapsyon, nais ko pong ipagpatuloy na magsilbi sa ating bayan," he said.
(From fighting terrorism, communist rebels, and notorious criminals as a soldier and law enforcement officer, to being the PNP chief who imposed discipline and cleaned up the ranks of the police force, to becoming a senator with no history of corruption, I want to continue serving our country.)
"Among all the presidential aspirants, narito man o laging absent, walang sinuman kung hindi ako ang sadya at aktwal na nagsugal ng sariling buhay sa pagligtas sa panganib ng sinuman," he added.
(Among all the presidential aspirants, regardless of whether they are here or often absent, no one has willfully risked his or her own life to save anyone from harm but me.)
The lawmaker then said that only a true leader could turn other presidential candidates' promises into reality.
"It takes a leader, who is competent, qualified, and experienced, to turn the promises of Unity, Bilis Aksyon, Angat Buhay into reality," Lacson said.
Unity, Bilis Aksyon, and Angat Buhay are the campaign slogans of presidential candidates Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., Isko Moreno, and Leni Robredo, respectively.
"Kailangan natin ng pangulo na handang ipaglaban kayong lahat para ipanalo ang sambayanang Pilipino," Lacson ended.
(We need a president who is ready to fight and win for the Filipino people.)
