Commissioner says Comelec to wait for complaint over cash gifts after Marcos rally
The Commission on Elections will wait for a complaint as regards the reported distribution of cash envelopes in Nueva Ecija following a campaign rally of presidential Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Newly appointed Commissioner George Garcia made the remark when asked about the distribution of envelopes which was caught on camera outside the governor's residence in the province.
"We will wait for the proper complaint to be filed so that we can take action thereon," Garcia told reporters.
He earlier indicated that he would raise the matter in the en banc.
“I will make singit po this issue to our ongoing deliberation,” Garcia said.
GMA News on Tuesday caught the giving away of envelopes on Tuesday. They contained P500.
Those who received said they didn't know what they were for.
Marcos' party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) said the incident was not part of the “policy” in their core values and principles.
"Partido Federal ng Pilipinas is a disciplined political party! We abhor such action! That is not a policy in our core values and principles," said PFP Secretary-General Gen. Thompson Lantion (ret.) in a statement.
Reacting to a report on Twitter, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. indicated that the issue was a "big-ticket irem."
“Singit? That should be the big-ticket item of any forthcoming deliberation,” Locsin said on Twitter. —NB, GMA News
