Reestablishing Marcos political dynasty? Bongbong says, ‘You can’t stop people from serving’

Presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday gave his sentiment regarding political dynasty.

At a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, Marcos was asked on the supposed reestablishing of the Marcos political dynasty.

Marcos’ sister, Imee, is an incumbent senator while his son, Sandro, is running for the House of Representatives representing Ilocos Norte’s 1st District.

The former senator said they deserve to be in position especially if they get elected by the people.

“You cannot stop people from wanting to serve. Imee wants to serve. I want to serve. Sandro, my son, wants to serve. What would I tell them? ‘No, don’t help’? Kung binoto naman ng tao, eh di they deserve to be in wherever they are,” Marcos said.

“It's very clear that the political dynasties, there's a very good system or process to mitigate the overstaying of political dynasties and it's called elections,” he added.

Marcos also mentioned that his sister deserves to be in a government post as “she does very good work.”

“Besides, why should Imee not be allowed to work? She does very good work. Marami siyang ginagawa. Marami siyang naitutulong. Why? Because kapatid ko [siya],” Marcos said.

(She has done a lot of things. She helped a lot. Why? Bacause she’s my sister.)

Marcos said “term limits make political dynasties.”

“‘Pag mayor ako, nine years ako, patapos na ko pero hawak ko pa rin ‘yung bayan at marami pa kong gustong gawin, patatakbuhin ‘yung asawa, patatakbuhin ‘yung anak, patatakbuhin ‘yung pinsan tapos siya tatakbong vice mayor,” Marcos said.

(If I’m a mayor, I can serve for nine years… if my term is about to end and I still have a lot of plans, I’ll let my wife or child to run. Then my cousin will run for vice mayor.)

“That plays a large part to it. Even people have been talking recently and I happen to agree about how the party-list system has been abused. The term limits have something to do with that,” he added. — RSJ, GMA News
