He said it was past midnight when his passengers asked if he had change for P1,000. When they arrived at the Abad Santos area, the suspects declared the robbery.
“Pagkalagpas namin ng Avenida, nasa Abad Santos na kami bago mag Solis, ‘yun nagtanong na sila kung may panukli ako sa P1,000. Sabi ko meron na pero P500 mahigit lang yung pera ko dyan. Bigla nila akong pinakanan,” Mejulio said.
(After we passed Avenida, we were in Abad Santos before Solis, they asked if I had change for P1,000. I said I already did but it was only more than P500. Suddenly, they told me to make a right.)
Mejulio drove into a one-way street to get the attention of the policemen. He stopped near the cops and then quickly ran out of the car to report the robbery.
Alerted, the policemen surrounded the taxi and arrested the suspects identified the suspects as Ryan Medina and Glenn Mark Evasco.
According to the police, it was a modus operandi of the suspects to ask the cabbie if he had change for a higher bill.
“Dahil po gipit kami sa bahay, pasensya na po sorry po sa nagawa namin,” Medina said when asked why they tried to rob Mejulio.
(Because we have limited money at home, I'm sorry for what we did.)
“Pasensya na po ‘tay sa nagawa namin sa inyo,” Evasco said told the cab driver.
(I'm sorry for what we did to you.)
