Isko says no to legalization of medical marijuana, says system should be fixed first
NAGTIPUNAN, Quirino — Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno on Thursday said no to the legalization of medical marijuana, adding that the government should fix its system first.
“It will be subject to abuse. We have to fix our system first as a government and our mindset as a citizen,” Moreno said in an ambush interview.
“Someday, somehow that science will prove it, as long as makikinabang ‘yung kalusugan ng isang tao, ano mang uri ng gamot, na pwedeng makatulong sa kanya na mabuhay siya, then so be it,” he added.
During the Jessica Soho interviews, Moreno previously voted yes to legalizing medical marijuana for medicinal or medical purposes.
2-joints sign
Meanwhile, Moreno said though he is happy to connect with the youth through his viral 2-joints sign, he is not promoting the use of illegal drugs.
“We were in Cotabato- Yorme, Yorme, two joints. Gumanon. Siyempre, gusto ko naman maka relate. Edi nyangga din ako. Then it went viral. Because it’s organic. Kaya happy naman kami nakaka relate sa kabataan,” he said.
“But it doesn’t mean we are promoting illegal substance,” he added.
In a message to reporters, campaign manager Lito Banayo said the hand sign was something Moreno picked up “without knowing what it really meant.”
“We of course use God First as our hand sign because he has been using that even in Manila politics, but relating to younger voters is quite important, and the response to the two joints sign is quite refreshing,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
