Bongbong Marcos expresses intent to end ‘endo’
Presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is eyeing to prioritize the measure which aims to end contractualization in the labor force.
In a statement on Wednesday, Marcos expressed interest in making into a priority bill the proposed Security of Tenure Act in line with his intention of ensuring better labor practices for workers.
Marcos said there is a need to study and amend the version of the bill that was vetoed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019 for “unduly broadening the scope of labor-only contracting, and effectively banning other forms that are not particularly unfavorable to employees.”
“Kailangan pag-aralan nang husto kung paano ito i-a-amend na talagang magbibigay proteksyon ito sa ating mga manggagawa para maisabatas ito. Kailangang ayusin natin dahil ang ating mga kababayan, napipilitang magtrabaho overseas dahil mababa at hindi maayos ang labor conditions dito,” Marcos said.
(We should study how we this could be amended to really give protection to the workers. We should fix this since our countrymen are forced to work overseas because of poor labor conditions here.)
Marcos said there is a need to streamline concerned agencies so that there will be an office which will focus on local and overseas workers.
