Health worker Dr. Natividad Castro will be detained at the Agusan del Sur Provincial Jail pending the resolution of her kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases.
In a message to GMA News Online, Police Regional Office 13 public information office chief Police Major Dorothy Tumulak said the commitment order was issued by the Bayugan City Regional Trial Court Branch 7 on Monday.
“Commitment order to provincial jail, Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur issued on February 21, 2022 by RTC Branch 7, Bayugan, Agusan del Sur,” she said.
On Friday, Castro was taken into custody by Philippine National Police and Armed Forces intelligence operatives in Barangay San Perfecto, San Juan City on the basis of a warrant of arrest issued on January 30, 2020 by acting Presiding Judge Fernando Fudalan of the Bayugan RTC Branch 7.
She was immediately flown to Bayugan and brought to the city’s police station.
Police said Castro is a ranking member of the Communist Party of the Philippines, but the Commission on Human Rights said she has been red-tagged for her work.
Malacañang on Tuesday defended Castro's arrest, saying it was not a case of red-tagging and proper procedures were followed.— VBL, GMA News
