DOH reports 2,730 new COVID-19 cases; death toll exceeds 55,000


The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 2,730 new COVID-19 infections, the lowest recorded this year as cases continue to decline.

According to the DOH, this brings the nationwide tally to 3,639,942 while active cases decreased to 76,609.

Of the active cases, 69,574 are mild, 2,310 are asymptomatic, 1,443 are severe, and 312 are in critical condition.

The DOH said 2,627 of the cases occurred within the recent 14 days with the National Capital Region (NCR) as the top contributing region with 467.

Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed by 7,456 to 3,508,239 while 164 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 55,094.

A total of 68 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while 121 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths.

Two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The latest data from the DOH also showed that 34% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 18% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

Data also showed that 31% of the ICU beds in NCR are in use while 17% of the ventilators are occupied. — BM, GMA News
