Philippines logs 3,050 new COVID-19 cases, lowest this year

The Philippines on Sunday reported 3,050 new COVID-19 infections, the lowest so far this year, data from the Department of Health showed.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country's total case count to 3,637,280, as two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Active cases in the country further decreased to 81,394, of which 4,546 are asymptomatic, 71,994 are mild, 1,460 are severe, and 326 are in critical condition.

Of the cases reported today, the DOH said 3,010 or 99% occurred within the recent 14 days - January 31 to February 13.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region with 556 or 18%, Region 6 with 367 or 12%, and Region 4-A with 311 or 10%.

The DOH also reported zero deaths due to technical issues in extracting data from COVIDKaya. The death toll remained at 54,930.

"This has been coordinated with the DICT and rest assured that they are currently addressing this issue," the DOH said.

Meanwhile, the country's positivity rate was at 11.7%. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 31,403.

Total recoveries increased to 3,500,956 after 5,811 more patients recovered from the illness.

The DOH noted that 138 duplicates were removed from the total case count.

The latest data from the DOH also showed that 34% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 18% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 30% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 18% of the ventilators are in use. — DVM, GMA News
