8,564 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to 151K

The Philippines on Friday recorded 8,564 new COVID-19 infections bringing the nationwide caseload to 3,594,002.

According to the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest bulletin, 151,389 active cases were logged, of which 6,522 are asymptomatic; 139,940 are mild; 3,107 are moderate; 1,500 are severe; and 320 are in critical condition.

The DOH said of the 8,564 reported cases on Friday, 6,560 or 77% occurred within the recent 14 days from January 22 to February 4, 2022.

Among the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 907 or 14%, followed by Region 6 with 782 or 12% and Region 11 with 753 or 11%.

Total recoveries climbed to 3,388,399 with 10,474 new individuals defeating the viral disease.

The DOH reported 46 new fatalities, pushing the death tally to 54,214.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate was at 24.3% higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate.

The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 37,932.

The Health department said all laboratories were operational since February 2, while there were six laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

It also reported 23 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 14 are recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 19 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Based on the latest data, it showed that 44% of 3,800 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 42% of the 15,600 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 35% of the 4,300 ward beds in the NCR were in use.—LDF, GMA News
