DepEd exec: Many distance learning features to be maintained when we go back to normal

The Department of Education is eyeing to maintain many features of distance learning when the Philippines goes back to normal from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to its official.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB on Thursday, DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said these aspects from remote learning will become regular features in teaching and learning.

“Maraming aspeto nitong distance learning, na ibig sabihin (Many aspects of distance learning), will become regular features when we go back to normal,” he said.

“There are many things in the learning delivery process na nabuksan nitong panahon ng (that have been opened during this time of) pandemic that will become regular features of teaching and learning,” he added.

Due to the threat of COVID-19, the DepEd has set up distance learning where students do not need to go to campuses to continue their studies. Students only have to accomplish and submit learning modules or join online classes.

The DepEd also removed around 60% of the curriculum to adjust for the remote learning approach.

After closing the pilot phase of limited face-to-face classes in the country, the DepEd this February authorized regional directors to hold in-person classes under the expanded phase— Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
