15,789 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to 230K


The Philippines on Wednesday registered 15,789 new COVID-19 cases bringing the nationwide tally to 3,475,293.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest bulletin, of the 230,410 active infections logged, 6,902 are asymptomatic; 218,711 are mild; 2,982 are moderate; 1,507 are severe; and 308 are critical.

 

 

The DOH said of the new cases, 15,061 or 95% occurred within the recent 14 days from January 13 to 26.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were Region 4-A with 2,248 or 15%, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,135 or 14% and Region 7 with 1,520 or 10%.

Total recoveries climbed to 3,192,219 with 32,712 new individuals defeating the viral disease.

The DOH reported 66 new fatalities, pushing the death tally to 53,664.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate was at 35.8%, which is higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate.

The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 48,725.

The latest data showed that 48% of 3,900 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 53% of the 15,200 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 47% of the 4,000 ward beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) were in use.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational since January 24, while there were three laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The Health department reported 142 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 80 are recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 10 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.—LDF, GMA News
