Pacquiao maintains he's against same-sex marriage, claims he has a lot of LGBT supporters

Presidential aspirant and Senator Manny Pacquiao during The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews reiterated that he is not in favor of same-sex marriage.

"Hindi po ako pabor diyan. 'Yan po ay bilang sa paniniwala natin, sa faith natin sa Panginoon ay kailangan doon tayo sa gusto ng Panginoon," Pacquiao said during the program that was aired Saturday.

(I am not in favor of that. It's because of my faith in God, we should follow what God wants.)

In 2016, then-Sarangani Representative Pacquiao was criticized for describing members of the LGBT community as "worse than animals." He apologized over his remarks, claiming he was misquoted.

Pacquiao had said he is against same-sex marriage but not homosexuality in general.

Pacquiao, who is eyeing the highest government post under the PROMDI party, claimed that he has a lot of supporters from the LGBT community. He said his stand would stay the same.

"Marami pong salamat at sa ngayon nagkaintindihan na po kaming lahat. At 'yong paniniwala ko po ay manatili po 'yon ang aking paniniwala sa Panginoon at 'yong pagkakalinga sa kanila, pagtutulungan sa kanila nandiyan pa rin po 'yong mga LGBTQ. In fact, mas marami pong supporters ako ngayon ng LGBTQ na sumusuporta sa atin at naniniwala sa atin," Pacquiao said.

(I'm thankful that we understand each other now. My belief and my faith in God will remain as well as my concern with the LGBTQ community. In fact, I have a lot of LGBTQ supportes now who believe in my capabilities.) --KBK, GMA News
