PHAPI: 20 private hospitals 85% full

The utilization rate of 20 private hospitals is at critical level as the Philippines continue to record high COVID-19 daily infections, the Private Hospitals Association Philippines (PHAPI) said.

A report by Joseph Morong over "24 Oras" quoted PHAPI President Jose de Grano said these private hospitals reported 85% occupancy rate.

"Bigla talaga, dati nag 200 lang tayo (It was abrupt, before we only had 200 cases)," said de Grano.

According to GMA News Research analysis, occupancy rates of intensive care unit beds in Metro Manila rose from 25% to 54% recorded on January 11, 2022.

The Malacañang said it is prepared to raise the Alert Level 4 in Metro Manila if cases continue to spike.

For De Grano, raising the alert level to 4 will be favorable for hospitals because it would further restrict movement of people.

"Para mas may control sa taong lumalabas at pumupunta sa malls. You need to control your mobility. (So that their movement can be controlled in malls and outdoors)," he said.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
