Ex-PNP chief Eleazar tests positive for COVID-19
Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief and senatorial aspirant Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday said he tested positive for COVID-19.
Eleazar was asymptomatic and currently under home isolation.
“Tonight, I received the RT-PCR result which showed that I am infected with the coronavirus for the first time,” he said in a statement.
“I am asymptomatic and will continuously observe the home isolation protocol of the Department of Health until I am cleared to go out,” he added.
The former PNP chief also urged the public to get inoculated against the viral disease to prevent the serious effects of a COVID-19 infection.
“In this regard I enjoin the public to get their jabs, and booster shots as soon as these are available, because this is what the government’s vaccination program is all about — to prevent serious effects of COVID infection,” he added.
The senatorial aspirant was running under the Partido Reporma as a substitute for PWD advocate Paolo Capino, who withdrew from the senatorial race.
Eleazar, who retired from the police force last November 13, 2021, filed his candidacy on the last day of the substitution period for the May 2022 polls. — DVM, GMA News
