Bongbong camp lauds Comelec declaration of other Marcoses as nuisance bets
The camp of former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday lauded the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to remove Tiburcio Marcos and Maria Aurora Marcos from the list of candidates in the 2022 elections.
Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, spokesperson for Marcos, says such action upholds democracy and stops mockery of the elections.
"We commend the Comelec for its decision declaring Tiburcio Marcos and Maria Aurora Marcos nuisance candidates," Rodriguez said in a statement.
"We give it to the members of this august body for seeing through the schemes and machinations of certain political camps to make a mockery of the electoral process by resorting to gutter politics."
A Comelec division earlier issued a resolution denying a petition seeking to declare Bongbong Marcos, son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., a nuisance candidate.
Bongbong Marcos is the standard bearer of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and his running mate is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Bongbong's candidacy, however, is being challenged before the Comelec, with various groups and personalities calling for his disqualification and the invalidation of his certificate of candidacy in connection with his conviction in a tax case years ago.
Rodriguez has dismissed the petitions as propaganda.
"We have always held that elections are won and lost on election day," he said in his latest statement. "Let us all adhere to that." —Llanesca T. Panti/KBK, GMA News
