Odette death toll increases to 378, NDRRMC says


The reported count of deaths from Typhoon Odette's aftermath climbed to 378 from 367, data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed Sunday.

Of the 378 fatalities, 218 are unidentified, 92 are men while 68 are women. But only 54 deaths have been confirmed while 324 are still for verification, the NDRRMC said.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC data also showed that 742 were injured in the typhoon, of which 73 are confirmed. Further, 60 people were missing but only 10 were confirmed.

Odette affected 3,953,880 people or 1,012,997 families in Mimaropa, Region 5, Region 6, Region 7, Region 8, Region 9, Region 10, Region 11, Region 12, CARAGA, and BARMM.

The typhoon that struck Visayas and Mindanao areas as well as Palawan on December 16 and 17 also displaced 546,100 persons, including 270,063 people who are outside evacuation centers and 276,037 who are staying within the 1,198 evacuation sites in their respective areas.

A total of 150 out of 281 cities and municipalities had their electricity restored.

The NDRRMC also said agricultural damage is estimated to be valued at P3,963,676,507.

Meanwhile, housing damage has been estimated to be worth P29,209,218. —KG, GMA News
